Building a Bright Future–Ebonee’s Story

A year ago, twenty-seven year old Ebonee enrolled in the Atlanta Children’s Shelter (ACS), seeking the resources she need to bring her family to stability. Arriving at ACS, Ebonee felt apprehensive because “I didn’t know what to expect.” However, Ebonee now feels “much more confident,”and with ACS resources, she has felt “strong persevering through the seasons.” Through ACS, Ebonee has accessed many resources including free mental health services as she explains, “ACS has helped me with therapy and healing from my...

Celebrating Young Learners!

Last fall, the Early Childhood Education Program at Atlanta Children’s Shelter (ACS) achieved national accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This accreditation is a big deal—it means that ACS is committed to providing top-quality education and care for families, ensuring that children thrive in a safe, well-prepared environment that sets them up for success. To honor this commitment and celebrate young learners, teachers, and families, ACS recently observed the “Week of the Young Child,” which...

Not stopping there, she ventured into the realm of entrepreneurship, becoming a licensed used car dealer. However, even with her incredible tenacity and drive, Princess still came...

Welcome H.O.M.E.

Recently, the City of Atlanta introduced the Welcome H.O.M.E. initiative, a streamlined and transparent system for permitting affordable housing projects. Streamlining the permitting system simplifies the process for developers, which in turn, makes affordable housing a more appealing investment. The City hopes to speed up the permitting process for affordable housing through new features such as a pre-submission program and a dedicated coordination team. For our families at Atlanta Children’s Shelter (ACS), affordable housing is one of the biggest barriers to breaking the cycle of...

In our classrooms, we explored the incredible accomplishments of African Americans despite facing immense challenges.
