Last fall, the Early Childhood Education Program at Atlanta Children’s Shelter (ACS) achieved national accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This accreditation is a big deal—it means that ACS is committed to providing top-quality education and care for families, ensuring that children thrive in a safe, well-prepared environment that sets them up for success.

To honor this commitment and celebrate young learners, teachers, and families, ACS recently observed the “Week of the Young Child,” which took place from April 8th to April 12th, 2024. This annual event, themed “Step It Up,” aimed to highlight the importance of high-quality early learning and recognize the pivotal role that early childhood educators play in children’s development and learning.

Throughout the week, ACS students enjoyed a variety of themed activities. From “Music Monday” to “Work Together Wednesday,” each day brought new opportunities for learning and fun. “Tasty Tuesday” featured a special visit from Herbalife distributor Pedro Vazquez, who treated the children to delicious breakfast shakes. “Artsy Thursday” saw volunteers from Accenture engaging students in the joy of creating art. And on “Family Friday,” ACS pulled out all the stops with their annual Family Fun Festival, complete with a bouncy house, snow cone machine, music, dancing, bubbles, snacks, and more!

The Week of the Young Child was a whirlwind of excitement and hands-on learning. Through collaborative activities focused on movement, healthy lifestyles, and creativity, ACS demonstrated its commitment to providing a well-rounded education that nurtures both the minds and bodies of young learners.

As ACS continues to uphold its NAEYC accreditation and dedication to quality early education, events like the Week of the Young Child serve as a reminder of the importance of investing in the future of our children. With each fun-filled activity and engaging experience, ACS is shaping the next generation of bright minds and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
