In order to become an ACS Volunteer, individuals must be 17 or older, complete both the Volunteer Application and Service Agreement and submit a current (no older than 30 days) Georgia criminal background analysis with the designation “working with children”.

*Georgia criminal background analysis can be obtained from your local police station for a nominal fee. Volunteers who wish to volunteer more than once a quarter must complete a Federal Criminal Background Analysis at an authorized location which can by found in this document. The cost for a Federal Criminal Background Analysis is $52.75.  Volunteer opportunities are available Monday-Friday from 9:30 AM-12 Noon and 2:30 PM-5 PM.

Group Volunteers 

The Atlanta Children’s Shelter accepts volunteer groups no larger than 15 people.  Opportunities available include:

  • Classroom Assistant
  • Supply Closet Organization
  • Donation Closet Organization
  • Pressure washing of playground equipment
  • Current needs drive
  • Administrative support
  • Job skills training
  • Event Support
