Are there volunteer opportunities available on the weekends?
No. Volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. We are closed on major holidays. Please see our list of Closing Dates.

Can I volunteer with ACS before I have completed the volunteer application and background check?
No. All volunteers must have a volunteer application, criminal background check and copy of their driver’s license, state identification card or passport on file prior to volunteering.

How old does a child have to be to volunteer with the Atlanta Children’s Shelter?
Volunteers must be at least 12 years old. A Chaperone must accompany all volunteers ages 12-16.

When volunteering at ACS what should I wear?
All volunteers should “dress to play”. Come dressed comfortably in clothing that allows you to move easily. Avoid dangling jewelry and overly revealing clothing such as midriff tops or t-shirts with negative images or messages. Also, closed toe shoes are required. No open toe sandals or flip-flops.

Is there anything that I need to bring with me when I volunteer?
No. There is nothing to bring. Dress “to play” and please leave personal belongings at home or in your car when you arrive on site.

What types of criminal offenses would prevent me from being able to volunteer?
Felony convictions, violent offenses and any offenses related to crimes against women and/or children. Any other types of offenses are handled on a case by case basis keeping in mind the safety and welfare of the children and families that we serve.
