1 – Complete Volunteer Application and Service Agreement

The Volunteer Application and Service Agreement must be completed and submitted no later than the 15th of the month before the scheduled orientation you plan to attend (example: Orientation date is December 1 so your Volunteer Application and Service Agreement must be received no later than November 15).

2 – Complete Criminal Background Check

The Criminal Background Check must be completed and submitted no later than the 15th of the month before the scheduled orientation you plan to attend (example: Orientation date is December 1 so your Criminal Background Check must be received no later than November 15). You must submit a Criminal Background Check before becoming eligible to volunteer with the Atlanta Children’s Shelter. Please contact your local county Sherriff or Police Department for details on how to obtain your Criminal Background Check. For group (corporate) volunteers, a company confirmation of a satisfactory Criminal Background Check may be accepted in place of individual Criminal Background Checks and must be submitted one week prior to the group visit. 3 - Attend Orientation

Individual Volunteer orientation is the first Thursday of every month from 2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. with a classroom volunteer opportunity from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Please note that submitting a Volunteer Application and Service Agreement and a Criminal Background Check does not guarantee that you are scheduled for a shift. Your request will be reviewed by the Development Coordinator and you will receive a confirmation to your request to volunteer before the day of Orientation. Group volunteer orientation will be conducted during the first 20 minutes of the scheduled group volunteer opportunity.
