Atlanta Children’s Shelter Celebrates 25 Years of Helping Homeless Families PDF Print E-mail

Gala Event at Loews Atlanta Hotel on September 10, 2011

ATLANTA, June 20, 2011 – Atlanta Children’s Shelter (ACS) is celebrating 25 years of helping homeless  families with young children become self-sufficient with a Gala Event at Loews Atlanta Hotel on September 10 from 6:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.

The celebration will honor eight former clients whose lives have been transformed. Special guests will include Ms. Marlena Dobbs, 2009 Valedictorian of Benjamin E. Mays High School, Emory University rising Junior, and Atlanta Children’s Shelter Preschool Class of 1996, and Ms. Joanne Hood, 2004 ACS “graduate” and recipient of the Junior League of Atlanta’s inaugural Women’s Empowerment Award. Post-presentation entertainment will include celebration dance music.

“The Gala is an opportunity for ACS and the supporting community to reflect on the positive impact we’ve made together over the past 25 years by helping end family homelessness in Atlanta,” says ACS Executive Director Sandra Keating,” It is also a time to acknowledge that family homelessness remains a growing problem and to reaffirm our organization’s commitment to expansion so that we extend our reach in the homeless community making our services accessible to a greater number of homeless families with young children.”

“I remember being in the Preschool room when I was 6 six years old. It was a safe and loving place for me to come each day,“ stated Marlena Dobbs, “Atlanta Children’s Shelter is a life changing place that helps homeless families do greater things.”

The 25th Anniversary Achiever’s Celebration
Of the over 5,000 families served at Atlanta Children’s Shelter, eight will be honored at the 25th Anniversary Achiever’s Celebration. These graduate, formerly-homeless, families participated in ACS programming and have been self-sufficient for at least two years maintaining stable employment and housing.

The 25th Anniversary Achiever’s Celebration Gala is on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Loews Atlanta Hotel from 6:30 p.m. until 10:30p.m. Tickets available beginning August 1 on the ACS website Ticket price is $100. Patron Level Individual Sponsorships are available at $1,000 and $2,500. Corporate sponsorships are available from $5,000 to $25,000.
