Atlanta Children’s Shelter’s 5K Run / Walk In Piedmont Park Event To Benefit Homeless FamiliesATLANTA, May 16, 2011 – Retired Falcons Wide Receiver Mike Haynes will be the Guest of Honor at the 2011 Atlanta Children’s Shelter 5K Run / Walk in beautiful Piedmont Park on June 11, 2011. Mike’s career spanned ten years, from 1988 until 1997, including 7 years with the Falcons and three years with the New Orleans Saints, in his city of birth. Mike was the 1988 seventh round NFL draft pick and in 1991, as a Falcon, led the NFL in yards per reception with 22.4. After three years in New Orleans, Mike returned to Atlanta and spent his final season as a Falcon before retiring and becoming personally involved in the mission of helping the homeless. “Even before coming to the Atlanta Children’s Shelter, Mike Haynes has demonstrated his commitment to helping the Atlanta community by being actively engaged in community-based organizations that work to end homelessness,” said ACS Executive Director, Sandra Keating, Esq. “We are thrilled that he has chosen to support the Atlanta’s Children’s Shelter and the homeless families we serve by being the Guest of Honor at our 5K event.” The 3.1-mile, tree-lined route begins and ends between the tennis courts, running track and bathhouse in Piedmont Park. The event is stroller friendly, and friendly-dog friendly. Registration is $25 per runner or walker until May 31, after which it is $30. All early registrants receive a performance T-shirt and can sign up online at www.acsatl.org or www.active.com.
