Awards and Recognition

ATLANTA CHILDREN'S SHELTER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

The Atlanta Children’s Shelter (ACS) is increasingly recognized as a model program to be replicated. ACS has received numerous local awards and national recognition for its innovative and outcome based programming and organizational management.

2011

  • Wilbur and Hilda Glenn Family Foundation Award – An award of $100,000 in the form of a matching grant from the Glenn Family Foundation to help ACS broaden its donor base to promote greater long-term support and sustainability.


2010

  • Sue Wieland Embracing Possibilities Award – An award presented to one of The Atlanta Women’s Foundation grantees and a client with whom the organization has worked to bring about positive change in her life.
  • SPANX Empowerment Award – A $10,000 grant awarded in honor of SPANX’s 10th anniversary and in recognition of the work done by ACS in the areas of education, economic empowerment and entrepreneurship programs for women and girls.
  • Coca-Cola Foundation Award – A $10,000 grant awarded in recognition of ACS’ positive impact on the Atlanta community and in support of those in need throughout the Atlanta area.
  • Lease Plan Cares Award – First recipient of the program and received a Chrysler minivan for a formerly homeless family. 
  • Turner Construction Co. “Topping Out” – A $25,000 donation awarded in recognition of an organization making a positive impact in the community where Turner completes construction of a building by placing last beam into place.


2008

  • Managing for Excellence by the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta – First Finalist for this prestigious award presented to the most accomplished nonprofits focusing on management expertise. The award is based on over 80 specific characteristics of well managed organizations.
  • Data Integrity Award by United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta – An award recognizing exemplary evaluation practices that demonstrate service impact.


2007

  • Empowerment Award by Junior League of Atlanta – An award given to one individual who has overcome great obstacles to achieve self-sufficiency and the community partner who played a pivotal role in the individual’s path to success.


2005
